My reactions to some of the Oscar Noms:

Best Picture: Extremely Loud gets a nom, but Dragon Tattoo and Tinker Tailor do not? You remember you don’t have to nominate ten films right?

Best Supporting Actor: Hey look Jonah Hill!

Best Supporting Actor: Hey look Melissa McCarthy!

Best Animated Feature: So Rio got snubbed, which is a shame. Pixar is probably in shock that Dreamworks has two films nominated this year while they have none, sorry Cars 2. Meanwhile Tin Tin isn’t there either (I’ll just blame motion capture) nor is Winnie the Pooh, but foreign films A Cat in Paris and Chico & Rita being nominated are real surprises to me. This is Rango’s award to lose.

Best Animated Short Film: Agitated that neither of the brilliant Toy Story shorts from Pixar were nominated. Buzz Lightyear in counseling was one of the best things I saw in theaters this year.

Best Original Song: Two songs were nominated. TWO. One from The Muppets, the other from Rio. I’m rooting for The Muppets, but hoping for a tie. Can that happen?

Best Visual Effects: The Apes will get this.

Those are my knee jerk reactions to the list of nominates. My hope is that the Potter franchise gets some sort of honorary award for being consistently excellent throughout 8 films…. but I know that won’t happen.
